— Monthly cost

How much does alarm monitoring cost in San Antonio? About $17 to $60 a month.

Professional 24/7 alarm monitoring in San Antonio runs from about $17 to $60 a month, going by what six providers publish as of October 15, 2026. Self-monitoring, where alerts go to your phone and nobody calls for help on your behalf, starts around $5 a month. Most of the difference depends on your contract, your cameras and who handles the alarm when it goes off.

This page is only about the monitoring service: what it is, who does it, how it works and what it costs each month. If you want the whole bill, including equipment and installation, we break that down on our San Antonio home security cost guide.

Three things move the monthly price more than anything else:

  • Contract or no contract. Some companies charge less per month in exchange for a 36-month agreement with early termination fees.
  • Video. Plans that store camera recordings or use video analytics cost more than alarm-only monitoring.
  • Professional or self-monitoring. Someone at a monitoring center calling police and fire for you costs more than an app notification you have to act on yourself.
— Side by side

Professional vs self-monitoring: what Ring, SimpliSafe, ADT, Vivint, Smith Thompson and Allied charge.

Every price below is copied from the company’s own website on October 15, 2026. Where a company publishes a per-day price, we show that and our own monthly math. If a company doesn’t publish its terms, the table says so. Prices change, so check the linked page before you buy.

ProviderSelf-monitoringProfessional monitoring (published)Contract terms (published)
RingRing Solo $4.99/mo, Ring Multi $9.99/mo (no professional monitoring)Ring Pro $19.99/mo includes 24/7 professional monitoring. Ring states it “does not own its monitoring center.”“Plans auto-renew until canceled.”
SimpliSafeSelf Monitoring with Camera Recordings 33¢/day (about $10/mo)Standard 76¢/day (about $23/mo); Core $1.10/day (about $33/mo); Pro $1.66/day (about $50/mo); Pro Plus $2.66/day (about $80/mo)No long-term contract, cancel any time
ADTNot compared hereSelf-setup monitoring from $24.99/mo; professionally installed from $45.99/mo. ADT’s pages show different figures for the same plans.Pro install with a 36-month monitoring contract, early termination fees
VivintNot offered as a planPackages approximately $49 to $59/mo; HomeProtect $24.99/moHomeProtect: $24.99 with a 36-month agreement, $29.99 with no long-term contract. Month-to-month when equipment is bought upfront.
Smith ThompsonNot offered$16.95/mo on your existing system ($89 start-up); $21.95/mo with app control ($89 start-up)“No term contract”
Allied Home SecurityNot offered$19.95/mo on a “compatible system,” $0 activation; “other fees or charges may apply”Not stated on its monitoring page

Smith Thompson’s $16.95 is the lowest professional monitoring price published by a San Antonio company. Ring Pro at $19.99 gets you national professional monitoring for about the price of a streaming subscription. Both are good options. At this price, providers differ in who installs and services the equipment, which monitoring center answers the signal, and what it costs you to leave. For a longer look at the national brands, see how we compare with ADT and local vs national security companies.

— Who answers the signal

Who monitors my alarm? UCC, right here in San Antonio.

Our alarms are monitored by United Central Control (UCC), a contract monitoring center that has served independent alarm dealers since 1982. UCC dispatches from its primary center in San Antonio and a secondary site in Lewisville, Texas. It is UL listed, FM approved and a TMA Five Diamond monitoring center.

Most alarm companies, including national brands, don’t run their own monitoring center. Ring says so on its plans page. Whoever you go with, ask which center watches your alarm. Here is what UCC’s three credentials mean:

  • UL listed: Underwriters Laboratories has inspected the center and listed it under UL’s standard for alarm monitoring central stations.
  • FM approved: FM, the insurance-backed testing organization, has certified the center for operational resilience and reliability.
  • TMA Five Diamond: The Monitoring Association awards this yearly to centers that have 100% of operators certified through TMA training, accept random inspections by a national testing laboratory, and commit to reducing false dispatches.

UCC was also the first contract monitoring center in TMA’s ASAP to PSAP program, which sends alarm details electronically to participating 911 centers instead of reading them over the phone.

— Step by step

What happens when my alarm goes off in San Antonio? We check with you, then send help.

When a sensor trips, your panel sends a signal over cellular to UCC. An operator sees the alarm type and zone, tries to reach you and your contacts to verify it, and requests police, fire or medical help if it isn’t cancelled. Inside city limits, the San Antonio Police Department charges fees after repeated false alarms.

The sequence

  • Signal: the panel reports which sensor tripped and what kind of alarm it is: burglary, fire, panic or medical.
  • Verification: the operator calls the numbers on your list. Give your code word and the alarm is cancelled.
  • Dispatch: if nobody answers or you confirm an emergency, the operator requests the right agency for your address.
  • Follow-up: you get app and text alerts throughout, so you can see what tripped.

False alarms cost money here

SAPD requires an alarm permit for any monitored burglar, panic or fire system. With a permit, the first three false burglar alarms carry no fee, then fees rise from $50 to $100 per alarm. Without a permit, a residential false alarm is $250, according to the City of San Antonio’s alarm permit page as read on October 15, 2026. Our San Antonio alarm permit guide covers how to apply; outside city limits, see the Bexar County alarm permit.

— Existing systems

Can you monitor the alarm system I already have? Often, yes. We’ll want it on cellular.

Often, yes. We can take over many compatible existing panels, so you may not need new equipment to switch monitoring companies. Whether yours qualifies depends on the panel and how it communicates. If it reports over a landline, we’ll usually recommend a cellular communicator or a new panel during the free on-site analysis.

Cellular vs landline monitoring

CellularLandline
Needs a phone lineNoYes

Every system we install uses cellular with battery backup. If you’re moving into a house with an old panel, bring it up when you call. We’ll tell you if it’s worth keeping.

— Getting out

Is there no-contract alarm monitoring in San Antonio? Yes. You can cancel with a phone call.

Yes. Several San Antonio providers publish no-contract monitoring, including Alamo, Smith Thompson and SimpliSafe, and Vivint offers it at a higher monthly rate. ADT’s professionally installed plans use a 36-month contract with early termination fees. With no contract, you can stop monitoring by calling, and the equipment stays yours.

Before you sign up anywhere, ask three questions and get the answers in writing:

  • Is there a contract term, and what does leaving early cost?
  • Does the plan auto-renew? Ring, for example, states its plans renew until cancelled.
  • Do I own the equipment, or does it belong to the company if I leave?

With us, no contract is required. When you cancel, ask for written confirmation of the last billing date. Do that with any company. More on how this works in our no-contract home security guide.

— Lowest price

What’s the cheapest home security monitoring in San Antonio? Self-monitoring, but you give some things up.

The cheapest option is self-monitoring. Ring Solo is $4.99 a month and SimpliSafe’s self-monitoring is 33¢ a day, as published October 15, 2026. The cheapest published professional monitoring from a San Antonio company is Smith Thompson’s $16.95 a month on an existing system, plus an $89 start-up cost.

What self-monitoring gives up

  • Nobody calls for help if you miss the alert. Asleep, in a meeting or on a flight, the alarm waits for you.
  • No verification call. You decide alone whether it’s real and whether to call 911.
  • Fire and medical. A monitoring center can request fire response for monitored smoke detectors when nobody’s home. An app notification can’t.
  • Insurance. Some home insurers discount for professionally monitored systems. Ask yours.

If you’re home most of the time, always have your phone, and mainly want camera alerts, self-monitoring is a reasonable choice. If you want someone awake at 3am whose job is your alarm, pay for professional monitoring. When you compare providers, look at the monitoring center and the contract along with the monthly price. For cameras specifically, see our San Antonio security cameras page.

How much does alarm monitoring cost in San Antonio?

Published professional monitoring prices in San Antonio range from Smith Thompson’s $16.95 a month to around $59 a month for Vivint packages, as of October 15, 2026. Alamo Smart Home charges $19.99 a month, or $24.99 with video analytics and cloud recording, with no contract required. Self-monitoring with no one calling for help starts around $5 a month.

What does Alamo Smart Home’s alarm monitoring include?

The $19.99 plan includes 24/7 professional monitoring by UCC in San Antonio, the Alarm.com app, text and call alerts, and a cellular connection with battery backup. The $24.99 plan adds video analytics, cloud recording for cameras and doorbells, and clip alerts. The first two months are free, and no contract is required.

Who monitors Alamo Smart Home alarms?

United Central Control (UCC), a contract monitoring center serving alarm dealers since 1982, with its primary center in San Antonio and a secondary site in Lewisville, Texas. UCC is UL listed, FM approved and a TMA Five Diamond monitoring center, and was the first contract center in TMA’s ASAP to PSAP program for sending alarm data to 911 centers.

What does TMA Five Diamond mean for an alarm monitoring center?

Five Diamond is a yearly designation from The Monitoring Association. To earn it, a monitoring center must have 100% of its operators certified through TMA’s training, accept random inspections by a nationally recognized testing laboratory, commit to high customer service standards and industry involvement, and work to reduce false dispatches.

Is there no-contract alarm monitoring in San Antonio?

Yes. Alamo Smart Home, Smith Thompson and SimpliSafe all publish monitoring with no long-term contract. Vivint offers no-contract HomeProtect at $29.99 a month versus $24.99 with a 36-month agreement. ADT’s professionally installed plans use a 36-month monitoring contract with early termination fees, per ADT’s website on October 15, 2026.

Is self-monitoring cheaper than professional monitoring?

Yes. Ring Solo self-monitoring is $4.99 a month and SimpliSafe’s self-monitoring with camera recordings is 33¢ a day. But nobody verifies the alarm or calls police, fire or medical help for you. If you miss the notification, nothing happens until you see it.

Can I switch my existing alarm system to a new monitoring company?

Often, yes. Many compatible panels can be taken over without replacing equipment. Alamo Smart Home checks your panel during a free on-site security analysis. If it reports over a landline, a cellular communicator or new panel is usually recommended, since landlines can be cut and depend on phone service.

What happens when my monitored alarm goes off?

The panel sends a signal to the monitoring center, an operator calls you and your contacts to verify, and if the alarm isn’t cancelled with your code word, the operator requests police, fire or medical response. You get app and text alerts throughout, so you can see which sensor tripped.

Do I need an alarm permit for monitoring in San Antonio?

Yes, inside city limits. SAPD requires a permit for monitored burglar, panic and fire alarms. With a permit, the first three false burglar alarms carry no fee. Without one, a residential false alarm costs $250, according to the City of San Antonio’s alarm permit page as of October 15, 2026.

Is cellular alarm monitoring better than landline?

For most homes, yes. A cellular communicator doesn’t need a phone line, has no exposed wire outside the house to cut, and keeps working on the panel’s backup battery during a power outage. Landline monitoring depends on your phone service and usually doesn’t support app control.
